DATE: 6TH JUNE 2016 ASSIGNMENT: IMPORTANCE OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION IN YOUR LINE OF STUDY. INTRODUCTION My name is Amanda Wainaina, and I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in International Relations. The main area of focus l have decided to undertake is Development Studies whilst also taking a minor in Management. Furthermore, I am currently interning at The National Alliance Party (TNA). Inasmuch as I am very excited about graduating in August, it is a bittersweet moment for me. The fact that I get to begin a new chapter is exciting, and yet daunting at the same time. However, I am confident I will be able to navigate through it. Throughout my years in university, I have come to realize and understand the very importance of intercultural communication, within international relations. Generally when we refer to intercultural communication we are referring to the two key terms: culture and communication. Generally culture involves the collectively held values, beliefs, attitudes, assumptions and norms of behavior that distinguish a people, group or society. Whereas communication involves the sending and receiving of information which has meaning from the source to the receiver and obtains feedback.
